We are the Friends of Jesus Green Lido. You’re warmly invited to join us – it’s free!
The Friends are a group of swimmers with a shared love of the lido. We want to strengthen our community, work together for the good of the pool, and help ensure that it thrives for another 100 years.
By becoming a Friend you’ll be joining a diverse group of lido users. It’s the best way of keeping up to date with news and events, supporting the lido, and having your voice heard.
The Friends of Jesus Green Lido was formed in the late 1980s. Our aim is to secure the future of the lido and its special environment. In 2018 we set up a new Friends of Jesus Green Lido Committee so that we can work more closely with Cambridge City Council, which owns the site, and Better, the social enterprise which manages the pool.
The Friends have three core values: community, voice and legacy.
A COMMUNITY OF SWIMMERS
The lido is a special place for many people. It’s a place for swimmers and for those who want to spend time in nature. It’s a place for families and for those who come alone. It’s a place to make friends, meet friends, to read, rest and recuperate. Whatever you need, the lido and its community is for you.
A VOICE FOR SWIMMERS
As Friends, we aim to provide a voice for all who use the lido. Through regular meetings with Cambridge City Council and Better, we help improve how the lido looks and operates. From spring bulbs and birdfeeders to warm showers and warm drinks, we can help turn your ideas into action.
BUILDING A LEGACY
For 100 years, the lido has been an important part of Cambridge. The Friends want to ensure the lido has a long-term, sustainable future for generations to come. As part of its centenary, a new Friends of Jesus Green Charity is being established to support charitable donations and fundraising.
THE CHARITY
In April 2023, the Friends of Jesus Green Lido applied for charitable status. After operating on a fairly informal basis for four decades, we decided that being formalised into a charity would give greater weight to our aim to safeguard the lido and to champion our three core aims: community, legacy and voice.
