Dear Swimmers,
We are delighted to invite you to a special evening at The Tivoli to share the start of an exciting new chapter in the future of Jesus Green Lido. As many of you know, our community of cold-water swimmers continues to grow. To help protect and enhance this much-loved space for years to come, several swimmers came together in 2023 to create a charity dedicated to supporting improvements at the lido.
The creation of the Friends of Jesus Green Lido Charity formalised the outstanding work of the volunteer group with the same name, which was created in the 1980s, and continues to play a huge part in life at the Lido and the experiences of everyone that swims there.
On Thursday 14th May 2026, Trustees will be publicly launching the Friends of Jesus Green Lido Charity and would like to invite you to attend an informal evening talk from 6.00pm to 8.00pm. The event will be an opportunity to:
- Learn more about why the Charity has been established
- Hear directly from the Trustees about their aims and objectives and work to date
- Discover how you can get involved
- Find out about the Charity’s first fundraising campaign.
As well hearing Trustees’ vision and plans, the evening will include talks from:
- Simon Griffiths, Founder of Outdoor Swimmer magazine. An all-year round open water swimmer and a huge champion of lidos, Simon will speak about swimming through the seasons, giving practical tips and guidelines.
- Rachael McGrath, a Research Affiliate at the London Interdisciplinary School. Rachael’s dissertation, “Should Saunas be Prescribed?”, informed a recently published, co-authored paper with Dr Martha Newson published in Social Science & Medicine, exploring sauna, belonging, and wellbeing.
Tickets for the event can booked via Eventbrite and cost £5, which will be donated to the charity. Places are limited – so book early to avoid disappointment.
Whether you are an all-year-round swimmer, a winter dipper, or a summer regular, we would love you to join us for this special evening and help get our first fundraising campaign off to a flying start.
