If you are swimming at Jesus Green Lido during July, please keep an eye out for Esther Chambers, who has set herself an incredible challenge – to swim 100km at the pool while raising money for two different charities.
Starting on Wednesday 8th July, Esther plans to swim 10k a day on ten successive days – clocking up the kilometres to raise money for the Friends of Jesus Green Lido and the Samaritans.
Both charities are close to Esther’s heart. For the past three years, she has volunteered as a Samaritan at the Cambridge branch – witnessing first hand the impact the service can have on people experiencing loneliness, distress, despair, or thoughts of suicide. Jesus Green Lido is also a very special place for Esther. She has spent many, many happy hours swimming there, but says it’s also somewhere she has found friendship and a wonderful sense of community.
If you’d like to sponsor Esther, we know she’d be incredibly grateful. She’s already really close to her fundraising goal.
