CENTENARY Film celebrates Lido’s COMMUNITY and Character

As we all start looking ahead to the warmer summer months, and a water temperature in double figures, it’s worth a look back over the past year when we celebrated Jesus Green Lido’s 100th birthday. From movie nights to open days, cake competitions to syncro swimming sessions, we had all manner of events celebrating the lido’s centenary.

One wonderful outcome of these celebrations was this fantastic film, by Tanya Jones.

Shot over many months, Tanya meets many swimmers and other characters who help to make the lido community the warm and welcoming space it’s renowned for.

    Tanya says:

“I offered to make the Jesus Green Lido Centenary Film because I love the place. The sounds and colours are beautiful. The pool can offer tranquility, fun, solace and as one of the interviewees says in the film, belonging. It becomes whatever you need it to be. The film was shot over a 10-month period and aims to capture the Lido through the seasons and present something of the community that exists there. It was a real pleasure to speak to the interviewees; they gave their time and thoughts with generosity and candour.

“I edited with the input of some of my Hills Road Sixth Form College students. I hope that the film helps to celebrate the Lido’s centenary birthday and encourages more people to visit. We are very lucky to have JesusGreen Lido and let’s hope that it continues to offer its charms to many more people in the 100 years to come.”
